Purpose of Editing

Purpose of editing

The first element of purpose of editing I'll discussing with you is Development of drama  .These binary opposites help to thicken the plot and further the narrative; and introduce contrast. For example, in a superhero film this could be good vs. evil, in a horror film this could be human vs. supernatural, and in a comedy this could be young vs. old. A problem with binary opposites is that they may often be seen as  negative stereotypes. For example, if the binary opposite was man vs. woman, according to gender stereotypes, the man may be portrayed to be strong whereas the woman is the damsel in distress. My example that I've chosen is from the new upcoming film called 6 underground trailer the development of drama begin from the beginning creating tension from the out set as they step for a heist

Combining shots into sequences is the process of placing shots together and making them all flow into each other. When all the shots are individually edited they can then be placed into a successful sequence, and the quality of the editing will determine how smoothly he or she sequence flow. This is shown throughout the trailer of Black & Blue which is used to so the different type of scene you should expect from the film. The trailer is showing a variety location as the cop is being hunted by the cop as well as the criminals in that city as she has a bounty on her head having something they both want.

The film I've chosen is classic 007 film starring Daniel Craig the scene which i'm analysing is  an iconic film and arguably one of the best scene in terms of editing as the tension created from the beginning as the whole scene is about James bond making an near impossible shot to save himself as well as the woman life . The Scene begins with tension as they build up the scene as James bond is being held at gun point at which James bond has decision either fight or follow their wishes which he does till forced to take the shot which he missed the villain would then kill the women for James bond missing.

This from the film bad boy 2 I've chosen this particular fil to illustrate and explain the understanding of creating pace as this scene  is iconic and great example of how creating pace is used within the film and what it does to the audience. What is creating pace well Creating pace while editing in a film is where a films speeds up or slows down certain parts of the film. This example demonstrates this very well as detective Marcus Burnet and Mikey Lowery are in car chasing but the plot twisyt is that the person their chasing is Syd (Marcus sister) the pace from the outset is quick and fast paced using a number non diegetic and diegetic sounds thought the  car chase the reason why this is so effective is because Pace changes the way the audiences view films and make them understand it in different ways. This allow the audience to all be on the edge of their seat eager to see what will happen next.

Relation to genre editing different genres of film, they use individual techniques and styles to illustrate this genre. Final destination is a hybrid of a thriller and horror genre  The way they edit these genre's changes the way we think about the story and our emotions change to the techniques used, it captures the audience and draws them in.  A great filming example is,  Final destination 5 as this trailer build tension and changes the mood dramatically, causing the scene from being calm and slow to face paced and fear within each scene they show this trailer is great as showing that as the scene begins with a regular laser eye surgery but then everything changes and goes wrong...…

A flashback is an implemented  scene that takes the narrative back in time from the current point in the story. This typically used with films that Disney or Pixar their are the most famous and most well known examples, the example that I will be using is toy story 3 where Andy flashbacks of when he was playing with toys from young till he stops this useful in capturing the audience sympathy as these type of moment make the audience emotion and make them connect with character feeling their pain , sadness happiness and others
