Editing Techniques


Continuity - Ensure that there is fluidity in what is seem on screen. Continuity impacts the audience in the sense of understanding and never ending drama this allows them to be engaged with the audience an example of this is  from Suicide squad when floyd Lawton realises that got  load pistol the camera males a continues action as he steps forward to shot at the target. 

180 Degree rule - The camera remains one side of a line to minimise audience disorientation is to keep the understanding of where everything is so it doesn't confuses the audience the example is from suicide squad when floyd lawton begins to offload the clip the camera remain in from of him to then change to over the shoulder of him shooting the target

Short reserve shot - Actions switches between two character, usually involved in a conversation. This used to show both side of conversation or scene to give the audience better understanding this is used in gemini man when will had conversation with himself about being used to kill himself in the future this introduced  at the 1.16 minute mark   

Montage - Shots are cut together to show the passing of longer period of time.

Jump cuts - Jerky cuts that only show information the filmmakers deems relevant or interesting. This is used by directors to show the actors feeling of the current situation in that scene that they feel need or most be shown  the film example I've shown is the film 21 bridges they show jump cuts from the very begin of the trailer showing the young future detective  reaction to the funeral of he's father. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVZDhunTrYA 

Cutaways - An inserted shot to show a relevant reaction to someone/ something. This is usually used within a film to show the body language and emotion on the character face this allows the audience to connect with character show empathy the same compassion the character feels.  













Parallel editing - Two lines of narrative are intertwined to create juxtaposition this shown when light and dark come present in scene to watch the fight between them both as the scene alternates to them. 

The rule of thirds -  Is a concept in video and film production in which the frame is divided into nine imaginary sections, This creates reference points which act as guides for filming.

Eye line match -  It is based on the premise that an audience will want to see what the character on-screen is seeing. This was present when they showed the childhood of both characters.

Reaction shot -  A person's response to an event or to a statement made by another. This illustrated when they should the reaction of light and dark as itachi was brought to hes knee as sasuake broke out of his sokonomaya

Production log week 4

Following on from the slow filming of last week, this week we decided that we would use new actors who are likely to be available at the same time as us. As such we filmed some scenes with kyla and muna as they are part of our group and we also filmed some scenes with dakaisha as she is friends with all of us and is always in school and very reliable, she was even in my film last year. We filmed the more dramatic scenes with marwan to build tension and we made sure that all of the present day scenes had been filmed as well as the flashbacks for the non continuity trailer. This way all our filming is complete, so we can spend the next two weeks editing to ensure that everything is done in time for the deadline and that we will have two completed trailers.
